Welcome to latest Asylum update. We hope you'll join us this weekend.

Spend Saturday Afternoon with Shakti
If you're a woman and you write consider joining the Shakti Women's
Writing Pact for a couple of hours of writing and workshopping. Shakti
meets every Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Java Hut (1073A Main Street,
Worcester). Shakti was created with the intention of enhancing women's sense
of belonging within the poetry community through the an unmoderated writing
circle. While originally created to support women they do welcome men into
their circle on occasion.

Coming up on Sunday, June 25th
[image: It's auction time!] It's time once again for the *Poets' Asylum
Auction*!!! We'll have an open mic all night long and we hope you'll join
this Sunday night, listen to some great poetry and bid on the interesting,
unique and just plain odd items the community has donated. We will be
accepting credit cards this year, as well as payment via PayPal, check and
good old cash.
This is a our big event to raise the money needed to get the Slam team to
Nationals. Nationals this year will be in Austin, TX and our expenses
include registrations, airfare, and lodging for the team and coach. All told
we expect to need over $3500 this year.
So bring some extra cash with you on June 25th and come down to the Java Hut
(1073A Main Street, Worcester). Open mic sign up at 7:00 p.m. with the open
starting somewhere there after. If you have good and interesting items you'd
like to donate to the Auction please e-mail host at poetsasylum.org.

June 18th Revisited
The Asylum got a slow start this week with the sunshine and heat holding
many folks enthralled. Once things got started though they picked up steam
quickly and were soon moving along at an exciting pace. By the time our
feature, *Ted Blackler*, took the stage for his 14 poem set the crowd was
ready for the good stuff. Ted delivered and while 14 poems may sound like a
lot these were concise and well written, packing a ton of *woo! woo!* into a
35 minutes feature. Audience favorites included a "slam style" poem called
"Split It When It Spit It" and a road rage poem. He closed his set with one
of his newest pieces, "Round & Round", which appears in this years Asylum
anthology <http://www.poetsasylum.org/anth06.html>.

*...Next Up!* is now Available!!!
