Welcome to the weekly Asylum newsletter. Even though the team is away at
Nationals with many groupies in tow a great literary game of poetry
continues in our fair city. Join us this weekend for some great words.

Pact. Shakti was created with the intention of enhancing women's sense of
belonging within the poetry community through the an unmoderated writing
circle.

Street, Worcester). For more information please contact Sou MacMillan

Coming up on Sunday, August 12th

[image: BSPJ image] The team is away and still we play at this game of
poetry. Please join the Asylum this week for the *Ballard Street Poetry
Journal Release Party*! The editors and some of the contributors to the
Summer 2007 issue will be on hand as t hey bring out the third volume of
this exciting local poetry journal. Following the open mic there will be a
select reading from the journal and a spotlight feature by Asylum webmaster,
Bob Gill <http://www.poetsasylum.org/bts/bob.html>.

Head on down to the Java Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester). The open mic
list goes out around 7:00 p.m. and the reading starts somewhere there after.
Please bring a few bucks for the bucket; it's how we pay our features.

August 5th Revisited

Thank you to the members of the 2007 Worcester Slam team for their passion
and great words at the send-off feature Sunday night. Trevor Byrne-Smith,
Gary Hoare, Erin Jackson, MC Spiel and Jon Wolf took the stage to show us
how their performance and partnership has come together since they became a
team back in June. They performed their work with strength and confidence.
Go Get'um Worcester!

As we receive updates from the road we'll post them to the Poets' Asylum
LiveJournal <http://community.livejournal.com/poetsasylum/>.

Fundraising Follow-up

[image: dollar sign] A quick follow-up on all of our recent fundraising
efforts. Thanks to the generous support of the Asylum community, and the
tireless efforts of our fundraising coordinator Cynthia Keeley, the Poets'
Asylum was able to raise over $3500. This covers our expected expenses for
Nationals and provides a small balance to support ongoing activities such as
the website and participation in future Slam events. We couldn't have done
it without you and we are grateful!

The Asylum is working to spread our fundraising activities over the year
rather than stacking them in a tight knot following team finals. If you
would like to get involved, and we'd love to have a bit more help, please
drop an email to fundraising @
poetsasylum.org<http://www.poetsasylum.org/fundraising@poetsasylum.org>
.
