Coming up on Sunday, September 2nd
[image: Dawn Saylor] This week the Asylum is pleased to welcome *Dawn Saylor
* back to our stage. Saylor is an eloquent spokesperson for the human heart
in all its fragile beauty and resilience. She has captained three poetry
slam teams (from Kalamazoo, MI) all the way to the National Poetry Slam
championships and is a master of the "group piece," or multi-voiced poem.
Taking cues from Janis Joplin, Sandra Cisneros, and Liesel Mueller, she
weaves the vivid patterns of her tremendous mythology into pure magic.
Come on down to the Java Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester). Open mic
sign-up goes up around 7:00 p.m. with the reading starting somewhere there
after. The feature follows the open mic. No cover; please throw some money
in the bucket to support the feature.

August 26th Revisited
Once again new voices took to the stage along with some of our regulars to
kick off the night with a diverse open mic. Please do come again. After the
open our feature, *Karen Ladson*, took the stage. She offered us
"behind-the-poem" view of her work, giving us some of the back story for the
poems. And what great poems they were with a quiet, simple delivery of
powerful themes. This sampling of her work seemed to dwell on relationships:
crushes, break-ups, weddings, family and more. Thank you for your strong
words Karen.
