Cold weather outside, smokin' hot poetry inside. Seems like an easy choice
to me.

Coming up at the Asylum on Sunday, January 28th

Join us at the *Poets' Asylum* for our weekly open reading. This week our
feature will be *Marc Marcel*. Raised in Baltimore, MD, Marcel made his
start in Atlanta, GA, where he honed his art form, and has since shared his
gifts across the country, as well as abroad. He has just released his 5th
Spoken Word CD. He sees life, as nothing less than finding a passion and
being dedicated to it, and in his work, he promises to capture the emotions
and feelings of a number of different issues, from politics, love, self
revelations, and the struggles that come with life.

Head on down to the Java Hut, 1073A Main Street in Worcester. The sign-up
list goes up around 7:00 p.m. and the open mic will start sometime after
that. The feature follows the open mic. No cover; bring a few bucks for the
bucket to support the reading and to buy a tasty beverage in support of the
venue.

January 21st Revisited

A packed house greeted the first *open qualifying slam* of 2007 this week at
the Asylum. There were many new faces in the audience this week and it was
great to hear a few of them in the open mic. Once the judges were selected
and the sacrificial poet was dispatched seven worthy competitors took the
stage for a two round bout of performance poetry. The judges were tough this
week, with a low score of 3 given at one point. It's a good thing we toss
those out. :-) Thank you judges for making this game of words something
more.

Excellent effort from Mareh, Liz, Dave Keali'i, Tyler, A-Dawg, John and
Halliday. At the end of the night *Mareh* and *Dave K* earned the top two
places. As their prize they get to move on to the Spring semi-final slam in
May. Congrats! You can check out the
scores<http://www.poetsasylum.org/slam.html#SCORES>on our slam page.
