Two excellent poetic events Friday night and the Worcester Slam team finals
on Sunday. There's enough poetry for everyone so come on down.

Youth Slam Feature Friday Night

The *SpeakOut! Poetry Collective* meets Friday, May 18th from 8:00 to 9:30
p.m. at the Java Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester). Hosted by Alex
Charalambides. This month they will hold an open mic followed *team feature
& fund raiser* to support their trip to the Brave New Voices International
Youth Slam festival in San Jose, CA this July. Come down and watch Jeff,
Winter, Eddy and Emily perform their poetry as they get ready for their
first youth nationals!!!

Dave Keali'i and Tony Brown @ Assumption
Friday Night

The *d'Alzon Arts Series: Poetry Reading* will also meet on Friday, May
18th. The reading is held at Assumption College (500 Salisbury Street,
Worcester) in the Emmanuel d'Alzon Library. The format is an open mic for
the first half-hour or so, a short break with refreshments and then 2
featured poets. The reading starts at 7:00 p.m. This month their features
will be the *Tony Brown* and *Dave Keali'i*, making up for their snowed out
performance in March.

Shakti Women's Writing Pact - Every Saturday Afternoon

If you are a woman who writes you should join the Shakti Women's Writing
Pact. Shakti was created with the intention of enhancing women's sense of
belonging within the poetry community through the an unmoderated writing
circle.

Shakti meets every Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m.at the Java Hut (1073A Main

Coming up on May 20th

[image: Speak That Word]It's time for the 2007 Worcester Poetry *Slam Finals
*. Join the Poets' Asylum for three rounds of the best performance poetry
Central Massachusetts has to give. The top finishers tonight will represent
Worcester at the 2007 National Poetry Slam being held in Austin, TX in
August. Scheduled to compete are Erin Jackson, Gary Hoare, Jon Wolf, Trevor
Byrne-Smith, MC Spiel, Tony Brown, Kate and Maya. This is bound to be a hot
night with great poetry and top rate performances from everyone. Don't miss
it.

Come on down to the Java Hut, 1073A Main Street in Worcester. The sign-up
list goes up around 7:00 p.m. and the open mic will start sometime after
that. The slam follows the open mic. No cover; please bring a few bucks for
the bucket to support the team and to buy a tasty beverage in support of the
venue.

May 13th Revisited

Now that was fun. *Susan B. Anthony Somers-Willett* and *Genevieve Van Cleve
* were our features this week as the *Lady Business Tour* rolled into
central Mass. Genevieve brought a deep humor to the stage that had the
audience clutching their sides with laughter as she spoke about reclaiming
Jesus and sent a thank you to Sylvia Plathe. Susan shared a view of New
Orleans and the golden ratio with eloquent language. Together they offered a
great feature. Thank you ladies!
