Welcome to the weekly Asylum newsletter.
Friday night - Worcester Youth Slam
The SpeakOut! Poetry Collective and *Worcester Youth Slam* will meet
tomorrow night, Friday, November 16th, at the Java Hut (1073A Main Street,
Worcester). The open mic list goes up at at 7:15 p.m. and the open reading
starts shortly after that. The slam is open to youth 13-19 years old follows
the open. All you need is two poems if you'd like to perform, there's a
good chance you're gonna make the top three and qualify to represent
Worcester at the Brave New Voices Youth Festival in our nation's capital in
July of next year.
The evening closes with a feature by 2006 & 2007 Providence youth
slammer *Laura
Murphy*. No cover - $2 "suggested" donation on the bucket pass. One
food/drink item minimum.

Coming up on Sunday, November 18th
Join the *Poets' Asylum* this week as *Seren Divine* returns to our stage.
Currently hailing from Brooklyn, previously a denizen of the Worcester
hills, Seren Divine is a feminist, educator, published writer, performance &
visual artist, event producer, award winning poet and proud queer. She's
been on several slam teams, mostly Worcester, once in Providence. Seren
subscribes to National Geographic, likes mint chocolate chip ice cream,
kinks, things that grow, and cats.
Come on down to the Java Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester). The open mic
sign-up list goes out around 7:00 p.m. and the reading starts closer to 7:30
p.m. No cover; please throw some money in the bucket to support the feature.

November 11th Revisited
We held an *open qualifying slam* this past Sunday at the Asylum.
Congratulations to Adam Stone and Sam (from Hampshire College) on capturing
spots in the Winter Semi-final in December. There is one more qualifying
slam before then. Check the Sunday

Winter Craft Bizarre and Art Sale
Save the date: Sunday, December 2nd we will run a crafts fair to benefit the
Poets' Asylum. Area crafters are invited to rent a table, display their
crafts and sell to their hearts content. The event is being held at the Java
Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester) and will run from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A month long art sale to benefit the Asylum starts that day as well.
