Welcome to the weekly Asylum newsletter.
Youth Slam Tonight
The *SpeakOut! Poetry Collective* and Worcester Youth Slam meets this
Friday, October 19th,at the Java Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester). The
open mic list goes up at at 7:15 p.m. and the open reading starts shortly
after that. The slam open to youth 13-19 years old follows the open. The
evening closes with a feature by *Harlym 125*. No cover - $2 "suggested"
donation on the bucket pass. One food/drink item minimum.

Shakti Women's Writing Pact - Every Saturday Afternoon
If you are a woman who writes you should join the Shakti Women's Writing
Pact. Shakti was created with the intention of enhancing women's sense of
belonging within the poetry community through the an unmoderated writing
circle.
Shakti meets every Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m.at the Java Hut (1073A Main

Cantab slammer *Jme*. Jme (J*me, James Caroline) was voted Best Local Author
in the 2006 Boston Phoenix poll. He is a multiple Cambridge Poetry Award
winner in the categories Best Erotic Male Performance Poet and Best Slam
Poet--Male. He has guest-lectured and performed at venues internationally
and this is his third national slam team. In May of 2007, he performed and
taught at The Saints and Sinners Literary Festival in New Orleans and is
currently an instructor at The Online School of Poetry.
Come on down to the Java Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester). The open mic
sign-up list goes out around 7:00 p.m. and the reading starts closer to 7:30
p.m. No cover; please throw some money in the bucket to support the feature.

October 14th Revisited
Fun night at the Asylum this week with a dynamic open mic and a couple of
new voices joining the mix. Welcome and come again. Following the open we
held a *qualifying slam* for the 2008 season. Thanks to all the competitors
for their great words. Congratulations to Trevor Byrne-Smith and Cyndi
Keeley for taking first and second place respectively.

Winter Craft Bizarre and Art Sale
Save the date: Sunday, December 2nd we will run a crafts fair to benefit the
Poets' Asylum. Area crafters are invited to rent a table, display their
crafts and sell to their hearts content. The event is being held at the Java
Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester) and will run from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A month long art sale to benefit the Asylum starts that day as well.
