Greetings from the Poets' Asylum.
------------------------------
Coming up on Sunday, February 3rd
Join the Poets' Asylum this week for *The Klute*, an amazing poet from Mesa,
Arizona. A rare breed of Southern Arizona slam poet, originally raised in
Southern Florida (however, he's not a native Floridian - rumors trace his
origin back to Illinois). He abhors use of rhyme schemes in poetry, writing
almost exclusively in free verse. Frequent targets: the goth subculture,
neoconservatism (especially Dick Cheney), and crass-commericalism. He was a
member of the 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006 Mesa National Slam teams (Mesa's
2005 slam champion) and is the former slammaster of the Mesa Poetry Slam. He
has released two chapbooks of his work: 2002's "Escape Velocity" and 2005's
"Look at What America Has Done to Me".
Head down to The Q Cafe <http://theqma.com/> (362 Chandler Street,
Worcester). The open mic sign-up list goes out around 7:00 p.m. and the
reading starts closer to 7:30 p.m. No cover; please throw some money in the
bucket to support the feature.
So yeah, I know this Sunday is the Super Bowl, and the Patriots are playing,
and that *never happens* so it's a big deal. That said you really should
come out and hear the Klute. You won't be sorry and they'll be playing the
highlights from the game for weeks to come.

January 27th Revisited
If you missed the Asylum this week (and a bunch of you did) missed an
eclectic feature by *Regie Gibson* with cellist Robert Rivera. Regie
performed a wild mix of spoken word, page poetry, and covers (such as Oscar
Brown Jr. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Brown>). His topics ranged
from a hysterical political spin on the State of the Union to a remix of
classic Greek myth. It was a fun night with loads of laughs. Many thanks
Regie and Robert. Come again!

New Photos in the Gallery
[image: Photo Album] <http://www.poetsasylum.org/photo/index.html>We've
added some new pictures to the Asylum photo collection. On January 28th we
uploaded pictures from Bill MacMillan's feature on 01/20 and Regie Gibson's
feature (with cellist Robert Rivera) on 01/27. These pictures can be found
in the new 2008 album.
You can check out all of our pictures by visiting poetsasylum.org and
