Greetings from the Poets' Asylum. Great poetry this weekend. Come check it
out.
------------------------------
Coming up on Sunday, January 13th

[image: Poetic Boxing] Join the Asylum this week for the next *Open
Qualifying Slam* of the 2008 Worcester Slam Season. A poetry slam is a
performance poetry competition. Anyone can participate. Poets are given
three minutes to step up to the mic and perform one original poem of their
own construction. Folks chosen from the audience judge the performance and
the poetry. The top 2 finishers in tonight's competition move onto the
Spring Semi-final in May.

Join us at The Q Cafe <http://theqma.com/> (362 Chandler Street,
Worcester). The open mic sign-up list goes out around 7:00
p.m. and the reading starts closer to 7:30 p.m. No cover; please throw some
money in the bucket to support the feature. This is sure to be hot show so
come on down.

Worcester Storytellers Tonight

Worcester poet *Joyce Heon* will be the feature this Friday, January 11th,
at *Worcester Storytellers*. You never know what Joyce will write about
next. Her curiosity takes her to PBS, the pages of The Smithsonian or the
National Geographic, music, art, the evening news, or the ordinary that
happens to catch her mind. Today it's tales of her family, tomorrow a
character sketch, yesterday a tall tale from a chance sentence in a trivia
book.

Worcester Storytellers meets at the Village Arts Gallery (1 Ekman Street,
Worcester). The reading starts at 8:00 p.m. with an open mic; bring your
short stories, poetry and charming tales to share. Joyce Heon will follow
the open.

Worcester Storytellers never charges a cover. They ask you throw some money
into the basket to support the artists who feature. For more info please
contact Dave Macpherson <davemacp at aol.com>.

January 6th Revisited

Thanks to everyone who came out for the first Asylum reading of 2008. Our
features this week were the touring duo of *Mike McGee* and *Robbie Q*. This
pair gaves us a energetic set with stories of love, loss and the power of
change. Trading off turns at the mic they demonstrated how their time
together has given them an easy repertoire, allowing them to build off of
each others poetry. It was a great way to start the new year at our (still
fairly new to us) space. Thanks Mike and Robbie.
