From pa-info at poetsasylum.org Wed Jul 9 14:02:34 2008 From: pa-info at poetsasylum.org (Info mailing list of the Poets' Asylum) Date: Wed, 9 Jul 2008 14:02:34 -0400 Subject: [pa-info] Asylum update (07/09/08) Message-ID: Welcome to the newsletter from the Poets' Asylum. Even though the Asylum is on a unplanned hiatus due to the ongoing venue issues that doesn't mean there isn't a bunch of excellent poetry happening in the area. Come check out one of the fun-filled events on Thursday or Friday night to get your poetry fix. ------------------------------ Reading Update The Poets' Asylum organizers sat down this past week to discuss the ongoing licensing issues at the Q Cafe. Until an entertainment license is issued we will be unable to hold the reading. That said it is unfair to continue canceling features a week at a time so we have decided to hold off on any features until after Nationals in mid-August. We will work with the features to reschedule later in the year. The time without features will allow us to rebuild the reading once it gets going again and spend extra time listening to each others poetry. If you have any questions or suggestions please drop an e-mail to webmaster @ poetsasylum.org . ------------------------------ Thursday Night @ The Spot Join the fun Thursday, July 10th, at the Hotel Vernon (1 Millbury Street, Worcester) for The Spot . This weekly reading meets in the Kelly Square Yacht Club (that room in the back) and starts at 8:00 p.m. This week they have an open mic followed by a feature from Asylum supporter *Sylvia Bagaglio*. No cover but bring money to buy a beverage and to support the feature. 21+ ------------------------------ Worcester Storytellers this Friday night Series founder *Dave Macpherson* will be the feature this Friday, July 11th, at *Worcester Storytellers*. Dave has performed all over New England. He has been published in *The Worcester Review*, Every Day Fiction, *The November 3rd Club*, and *Forbidden Panda*. His work has appeared in the anthology *Poets in the Galleries*. David received the Jacob Knigh t Award for Poetry in 2003. Worcester Storytellers meets at the Village Arts Gallery (1 Ekman Street, Worcester). The reading starts at 8:00 p.m. with an open mic; bring your short stories, poetry and charming tales to share. Dave Macpherson will follow the open. Worcester Storytellers never charges a cover. Team from the Hampshire and Emerson Colleges competed against the hometeam (that'd be Worcester) in a four round slam for glory, groupies and bragging rights.
