She brought the great poetry and a fabulous, infectious energy that helps explain why she is so well respected in poetry circles. She mixed up mostly newer work with a couple of older pieces. It was fun stuff. Thanks for the words Simone. ------------------------------ Fundraising News As part of our fundraising efforts for this year the Poets' Asylum will hold *Yard Sale, Auction and Art Sale*. The yard sale will be held on Saturday, June 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. outside The Q Cafe (362 Chandler Steet, Worcester, MA). Expect a wide variety of stuff such as books, DVDs, stuffed animals, small appliances and more. Come browse the goods and maybe you'll find a gem you can't live without. The following night, Sunday, June 16th, we'll hold the *Annual Asylum Auction* as part of the weekly reading at The Q. We'll have an extended open mic with a bit of auction action thrown in for fun. This is our big event to raise the money needed to get the Slam team to Nationals. Nationals are in Madison, WI and our expenses include registrations, airfare, and lodging for the team and coach. All told we expect to need over $3000 this year. Finally we will hold an *Art Sale* all month long at The Q Cafe. We have art work contributed by many friends of the Asylum that we adorn the walls of the The Q during the month of June. All the pieces will be priced to move so stop by and pick up something pretty to hang on your wall. We are seeking donations of good condition items for both the yard sale and auction. Items for donation and such can be brought to the regular Sunday night reading on June 8th at The Q Cafe. Or drop an e-mail to host @ poetsasylum.org to reach Dave, Liz or Cyndi. ------------------------------ The Poets' Asylum is in its fifteenth year of bringing the best in Performance and Slam Poetry to Central Massachusetts and beyond. We will work to reschule the iWPS Qualifier and feature by Ryk McIntyre for dates later in the year. As you probably have heard it was discovered two weeks ago that The Q Cafe does not have an entertainment license. They applied for a license this week, were told to meet with a neighborhood rep to work out concerns and then come back. Without an entertainment license The Q Cafe could be shutdown if we continue to hold the reading. All the organizers loathe canceling another reading however it seems like the best thing to do at this point in time. The organizers are hopeful that The Q Cafe will resolve their licensing problem in a timely manner. Please help spread the word that the Poets' Asylum is still alive and that we will update the website (and our LiveJournal , MySpace& mailing list ) when we have anything of note to share. If you have any questions or suggestions please drop an e-mail to webmaster @ poetsasylum.org . ------------------------------ June 15th Revisited Thanks to those who came out to support the 2008 Worcester Slam Team during our annual *Asylum Auction*. We raised a bit over $150 before we decided there just wasn't the right mood or mass of participants to continue the auction. A couple of generous friends of the Asylum pushed the total over $300 with cash donations. We really appreciate the support. The organizers are regrouping to figure how to raise the remaining funds to get the team to Madison (WI) for NPS '08. If you are interested in making a donation please drop an e-mail to fundraising @ poetsasylum.org . ------------------------------ June Art Sale The Q Cafe has given us the walls of the establishment for the month of June to hold *Art Sale* to support the 2008 Worcester Slam Team. We have art work contributed by many friends of the Asylum that we adorn the walls of the The Q. All the pieces will be priced to move so stop by and pick up something pretty to hang on your wall. ------------------------------ The Poets' Asylum is in its fifteenth year of bringing the best in Performance and Slam Poetry to Central Massachusetts and beyond.
