Welcome to the weekly newsletter from the Poets' Asylum. There's a lot of
exciting stuff happening with the Poets' Asylum. Read on for some of the
info and visit us Sunday night!
------------------------------
Coming up on Sunday, June 1st

This week at the *Poets' Asylum* we welcome Cantab Slammaster and member of
the 2008 Cantab Slam team, *Simone Beaubien*. Beaubien, an
eight-year-veteran of the New England poetry scene, makes her home in
suburban Massachusetts, working as an EMT and hosting the Boston Poetry Slam
at the Cantab Lounge. She has competed at five National Poetry Slams since
2001 and has performed her work in colleges, bookstores, theaters and bars
up and down the east coast. A lifetime nerd and part-time athlete, Simone is
a natural product of the sound of Boston performance poetry, bringing slam,
sonnets and storytelling to the poetry stage.

Please join us at The Q Cafe <http://theqma.com/> (362 Chandler Street,
Worcester). The open mic sign-up list goes out around 7:00 p.m. and the
reading starts closer to 7:30 p.m. No cover; please throw some money in the
bucket to support the feature.

Poets' Asylum MySpace

One could say that we are a little late in getting this into the game. As
someone said, "So what". For those of you who craze further connectedness
the Poets' Asylum has created a MySpace page. The lovely Cyndi Keeley is the
lady running the show over there, putting up video, pulling down photos and
so on.

Visit myspace.com/poetsasylum <http://www.myspace.com/poetsasylum> and check
it out. And friend us, we crave friends!!!

Asylum t-shirts

The Poets' Asylum is contemplating a new t-shirt design for 2008 to help
raise money to send the team to Nationals. To help us decided whether to go
through the effort of creating a new t-shirt we have a poll running on
our LiveJournal
community <http://community.livejournal.com/poetsasylum/64923.html>. If you
have a LiveJournal please let us know your thought by answering the one
question poll. If you don't have a LiveJournal feel free to drop an e-mail
to webmaster @ poetsasylum.org <webmaster at poetasylum.org> with your size
info.

T-shirts will sell for $10 each. No color has been selected yet. If we go
ahead with new-shirts we'll do so in late June/early July. Thanks for your
input... and support!

May 25th Revisited

Well that was fun!!! The 2008 *Worcester Slam Team Finals * were held
tonight. A packed house witnessed a kickin' open mic followed by 8 of the
area's best performance poets. If you were there you know who won. If you
weren't you missed laughter, open emotion, blazing acts of poetry and the
best the performers had to give. Thanks to Adam Stone, Bobby Gibbs, Dave
Keali'i, Erin Jackson, Gary Hoare, Nick Davis, Ryk McIntyre and Trevor
Byrne-Smith for their amazing efforts tonight. Thanks also to the judges,
Alex (our sacrifice poet), hosts Bill MacMillan and Liz O, and the audience,
we couldn't do this thing without you.

So who won... congratulations to Bobby Gibbs, Adam Stone, Ryk McIntyre,
Trevor Byrne-Smith and alternate Erin Jackson. They will represent Worcester
at the 2008 National Poetry Slam <http://www.nps2008.com/> in Madison, WI.
The scores from finals can be viewed on the Slam
page<http://poetsasylum.org/scorelink.html>.
Please join us next week for Simone Beaubien.
