The reading starts at 8:00 p.m. There will be an open mic followed by a feature from *Robert Clawson*. Worcester Storytellers never charges a cover. Joaqu?n is a poet, spoken word artist, and award-winning teacher. Born and raised in the barrio of East Dallas, in his work Joaqu?n strives to capture the duality of the Chicano culture. Sometimes brutal, but always honest his work depicts the essence of barrio life, writing about a youth that existed somewhere between the streets of the barrio and the dream wanderings of a boy who found refuge in a world of stories and poems. A National Poetry Slam Finalist, Grand Slam Spoken Word Champion, and HBO Def Poet, Joaqu?n has performed his poetry at universities, conferences and poetry slams all over the Unites States, Canada, and Mexico. Join us at Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester). The reading starts at *6:00 p.m.* . No cover; please throw some money in the bucket to support the feature. ------------------------------ November 9th Revisited Our feature this week was the incomparable duo of poet Tony Brown and bassist Faro, who together are *Duende*. They opened with a brand new piece entitled "Get Up" followed by another newer piece, "Ceilia". Duende kept the crowed going with a mix of pieces from their first cd, "Jim's Fall" and their more recent collection, "Americanized". The set included a solo by Faro performing Francisco Tarrega's "Capriccio 'Arabe". Duende got the crowd even more excited with "Classic Rock" and ended the evening with the beautiful " Where Do You Live". Many thanks to Duende for an amazing night. ------------------------------ The Poets' Asylum is in its seventeenth year of bringing the best in Performance and Slam Poetry to Central Massachusetts and beyond. We are thankful for the last year of Central Massachusetts poetry and for all those who support us, especially you. ------------------------------ Speakout! Youth Poetry Slam Every Saturday Night The *SpeakOut! Youth Poetry Slam* now meets every Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The format is an open mic, youth slam (open to poets age 13-19) and a feature. Share a poem at the open mic, take part in the youth slam or come see the feature. This week their feature will be *Rosalie Patricia Botkin*, a member of the 2007 & 2008 Providence Youth Slam teams. Join them in The Bistro in Higgins Student Center (950 Main Street, Worcester). ------------------------------ Coming up on Sunday, November 30th [image: Step up to the Mic] Join the Poets' Asylum this week for the *Rookie Slam*. If you have ever thought "hey, I could do that" when you watched a slam but you haven't given it a go yet then this is the night for you. The slam will be open to anyone who has never slammed before. The standard slam rules apply (3 minute time limit, your own original work, no props, etc.) and we'll have randomly chosen judges from the audience providing the scores. It'll be a great opportunity to see what all the noise is about and why for some folks the best poetry is slam poetry. Come on down to Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester). The reading starts at *6:00 p.m.* . No cover; please throw some money in the bucket to support the reading. ------------------------------ November 23rd Revisited Great feature this week from Asylum regular *Heather Macpherson*. With a mix of new work, older pieces and covers she rocked the mic. Hitting on relationships, rejection and love she captured the attention of the audience and held it firmly throughout her set. Great work all around. Thanks for the words Heather. ------------------------------ The Poets' Asylum is in its seventeenth year of bringing the best in Performance and Slam Poetry to Central Massachusetts and beyond.
