Greetings from the Poets' Asylum.

"Almost Famous" Slam @ The Spot
Thursday, October 23rd
Thursday night the weekly reading at the Hotel Vernon (1 Kelly Square,
Worcester) will host the *"Almost Famous" Invitational Slam*. The slam will
include performers who have made a Worcester semi-final or final but have
never been on a Worcester Slam team. If you've ever seen an invitational
slam at The Ship you know they are high energy poetic lovefests and this one
is sure to be no different.
The reading starts at 8:00 p.m. with an open mic. $3 cover this week. 21+
Don't forget the $1 drafts at the bar.
Proceeds from the slam will start the fundraising needed to field a team for
the 2009 National Poetry Slam. The Poets' Asylum is grateful to Bobby Gibbs
for his ongoing commitment to poetry slam in Worcester.

Coming up on Sunday, October 26th
[image: Andrea Gibson] The Poets' Asylum is pleased to bring *Andrea
Gibson*back to our stage. Rousing audiences throughout the United
States and Canada
with her poignant message and genuine interest in generating change, Andrea
Gibson is a poet/activist whose work deconstructs the foundations of the
current political machine. A four time Denver Grand Slam Champion, and
winner of the 2008 Women of the World Poetry Slam (Detroit), Gibson has
placed 3rd in the world for the last 3 years of the iWPS. HBO Def Poet
Andres Gomez has called Gibson both deeply haunting and profoundly
inspiring. "Her words cut so sharply and completely they cannot be shaken.
To call her one of the best poets would be a gross understatement."
Please join us at Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester).
The reading starts at *6:00 p.m.* . No cover; please throw some money in the
bucket to support the readings.

October 19th Revisited
*Ryk McIntyre* was our feature this week. He brought a mix of long-time
favorites and new work to the stage, giving a well appreciated performance.
With a catchy rap version of Shakespeare's finest and a new ABCs primer for
sixteen year olds he offered fresh examples of what made him a member of the
2008 Worcester Slam team. Thanks for the word Ryk.
------------------------------
The Poets' Asylum is in its seventeenth year of bringing the best in
Performance and Slam Poetry to Central Massachusetts and beyond.
