Jenith Charpentier Tonight @ The Spot

Square, Worcester), will hold an open mic. After the open the *Jenith
Charpentier* will be their feature. Charpentier writes poetry and fiction.
The reading starts at 8:00 p.m. with a brief open mic. 21+ and proper id is

Youth Slam Saturday Night
The *Speakout! Youth Poetry Slam* meets every Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00
p.m. The format is an open mic, youth slam (ages 13-19 welcome) and a
feature. This week their feature will be New Hampshire teacher, published
poet and slammer *Matt Gallant*. Join them in The Bistro in Higgins Student
Center (950 Main Street, Worcester). Come share a poem at the open mic,
catch the feature or cheer on the slammers.

Coming up on Sunday, March 1st
[image: 100 Word Slam] Join the *Poets' Asylum* this week for something a
bit different with the *100 Word Slam*. This will be a two round slam meant
to stretch the use of words. We'll run it the same of a regular slam (3
minute rounds, original work, no props, etc.) with the catch that the two
poems have to be 100 words combined. No more, no less, no repeats. The
winner goes home with $50. Come see what the word wizards can do.
Head down to Jumpin' Juice and Java (335 Chandler Street, Worcester). The
reading starts at *6:00 p.m.* No cover; please throw some money in the
bucket to support the reading.

February 22nd Revisited
Busy night at the Poets' Asylum this week with a packed open mic, a
spotlight feature by *Jadon Woodard* and a full *open qualifying slam *.
Thanks to the fine folks from New Hampshire for adding their words to our
open & slam. It was great to have you in the house. Thanks too go out to
Jadon for his high energy spotlight set. With powerful wordplay and a strong
ear for the flow of his work he captured the audience and left us wanting
more.
On to the main event: the open qualifying slam. Eight poets took the stage
this month with Mighty Mike McGee offering the sacrifice (and the only time
penalty of the night). Good gravy there were a lot of poems flying. At the
end of the night the final poet to perform, *Danny Balel*, captured first
place. Danny moves on to the team finals in May. Thanks to the all the
slammers, judges and the audience for their participation. Scores from the
slam can be found on the Slam page <http://poetsasylum.org/scorelink.html>of
poetsasylum.org.
