Thanks to all those who have given money in support of the team. The team has produced a chapbook to help raise money for their trip to Florida in August. You can pick up a copy from Cyndi Keeley at the reading. We are asking for a minimum donation of $5 for the book; you can always give more if the spirit moves you. T-shirts have been ordered and we should have them in hand my July 13th. You can reserve a shirt in your size by e-mailing webmaster @ poetsasylum.org with your shirt size. We expect shirts to sell for $15 each. We still need to raise a minimum of another $872 to cover our expenses. To date the Poets' Asylum has spent $2573.50 on NPS & PSI registrations, hotel rooms & airfare to West Palm Beach. That completes our expected expenses for the team this year. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. We can't do this without you and we thank you for your generosity. ------------------------------ Find us online at http://poetsasylum.org/. They will compete against 67 other teams in a battle of words and have the opportunity to take part in side events ranging from the Nerd Slam to a Death & Rememberance open mic. The members of the 2009 Worcester Slam Team have worked hard after earning a spot on the team to hone their craft and have already shown their skill at regional competitions. Sending a team to Nationals is a partnership between the Poets' Asylum community and the slammers. The community says gives us your best and we'll get you to Nationals. By the time the team heads to Nationals the Asylum will have spent close to $3100 on registration, airfare and lodging. To date we have raised an amazing $2104 since we started the fundraising campaign in March. We're in the home stretch and it would be awesome if we could raise the remaining $396 of our $2500 goal before the team heads out. On Sunday, August 2nd we'll hold the annual Team Send-off feature. We'll have the 2009 Poets' Asylum t-shirts for sale along with past t-shirts, CDs and anthologies. The bucket will be passed. If you can help us close the gap it will be greatly appreciated. Even if you are low on funds please come cheer on the team one more time before they head south for the summer. ------------------------------ July 26th Revisited It's been a while since we had a full open mic. We did this week though and it was full of nuggets of goodness. Thanks to all those who shared their words; we hope you'll join us again. After the open *Eric Darby* featured for us. Bringing mostly newer work to the mic he included a couple of old favorites and threw in a cover for good measure. Eric has a verbal style that draws the listener in, making you want to hear every word, every nuance of what he has to say. With material like the tale of the two Bobs and Scratch and Dent Dreams it's well worth the effort. Thanks for sharing your words with us Eric. ------------------------------ Find us online at http://poetsasylum.org/.
